What to include in student publications staff manual

The following documents are included in the staff manual, given to each staff member on the first day of school. I also include rubrics and writing guides that apply to each staff, as well as fun “advice” from last year’s seniors.

I get them printed at our district print shop, with a colored cardstock back and front cover and plastic comb binding. If budget allows, adding a clear plastic sheet on top helps to make it last through the year.

The staff is responsible for all the information in the manual, just like an employee would be. We don’t read the entire thing together, but I point out several parts on the first day and they highlight them to refer back to.
